Portland | Spring Break

Last March, I flew out to Oregon two days before my birthday for my spring break. There was no way I was going to stay around in freezing New Hampshire for an entire free week in March, so off to Oregon I went! I've made it a tradition to spend my birthday with my favorite people/photographers and I wasn't going to break the streak. I also got to create three images for my senior project while out west, please take a look at them here! I am still so proud of them. The trip was so amazing, so thank you to everyone who made it so great.

So first things first, I love this guy with the whole of my heart. He's the reason I made the trip out to Portland again and even though I havent hugged him since then, he remains a close friend and I love him to pieces. Thank you, Rob, for being in my life and being so amazing.

There is nothing like sunset on the west coast.

I love this dog. And on the morning of my birthday, he came and cuddled with me. (He's Kindra's, if you didn't know.)

I know this is blurry (and a Snapchat screenshot) but here's the short version of a funny story: Natalie Kucken and Brendon Burton, both amazing photographers, just happened to show up at Powell's (AKA the most amazing bookstore ever) at the same time as we did on my birthday. So cool right!? So Brendon put on my birthday crown.

Can't you tell I love waterfalls? And Oregon has so many of them, its amazing.

If you've never been to a cat cafe, you really should.

This is, by far, my very favorite waterfall now. So secluded, and the area is stunning.

Say hello to the best person I met on my first trip out to Portland, Aislin! I braved the bus by myself so I could see her again.

Detroit to Portland | Roadtrip

A year ago, I took my solo flight out to Detroit. It was New Years Eve and I was so excited to go. I made the trip for one reason: to roadtrip from Detroit out to Portland, Oregon with two friends that were moving out there. It was amazing, and a once in a lifetime experience I think. We may have just booked it across the country - making the trip from Grand Rapids, Michigan to Portland in less than 48 hours - but it was beautiful. I had never seen any of the US farther west than Buffalo, New York before this. I encourage anyone who has never crossed the country like this to do so. You won't regret it.

This post is entirely composed of cell phone and instant photographs. I don't care that they are not high quality. They are so meaningful and capture my trip perfectly. So have a look.

The abandoned houses in Detroit are like none other.

This waterfall may be incredibly popular and overphotographed, but theres a reason for that. Its breathtaking.

My legs killed while walking the path, but the greenery was beautiful.

No trip to Portland is complete without stopping by Voodoo Donuts. So worth it.

I will never forget nights like this. Rob and I ran across a five lane road to see this view of the city. Exhilarating and wonderful.

The trip we took to Hug Point and Cannon Beach was my first time really seeing the Pacific Ocean. When I went to Vancouver last year for Flickr Island, it was the Pacific waters, sure, but not the open ocean. So I loved this trip we got to take, so much. I miss it like crazy.

This is my very favorite ice cream. Honey Lavender ice cream from Salt & Straw in Portland. The best I've ever had.

Richmond | Winter Break Roadtrip

This post is a little (read: a lot) late but I've been putting it off for so long. Last December I took a roadtrip down to Richmond for part of my winter break to see one of my best friends, Meagan Abell! We didnt do much during the week that I stayed but I am still 110% glad I made the trip down. Meagan has turned into one of my favorite people and my closest friends; she is so talented and funny and a wonderful human being. Plus I got to spend her birthday with her! I wouldnt have had it any other way.

First day there: urban exploring. Of course.

So anyone that knows Meagan knows that she loves Chick-fil-A, which meant that my first day in Richmond resulted in a trip there! We told the lady taking our orders that it was my first time and she then brought me a free ice cream! People at Chick-fil-A are so nice.

Meagan's dog, Larry, is the cutest giant weiner dog in the world. Even when he walked on my chest when I was laying on the couch.

Our first abandoned house find! So of course we had to take selfies with it.

This place was a mess but I loved it. The inside was dark and packed with things; there was barely any open floor space and it made me wonder how on earth it got that way. We also found a couple really cute kittens and some stray cats.

This place was boring on the inside, but oh so beautiful on the outside and we went at the perfect time; everything looks better during the golden hour.

I am so glad that I got to see Zach Souliere before leaving Richmond. I had met Zach last March and seen him again in Vancouver last August. He gives the best hugs and is just a straight up awesome guy.

After leaving Meagan's, I stayed a night with longtime friend Tori Hoover, someone whom I've been friends with since my early days on Flickr and who has been a pen pal for several years now. I also got to meet her boyfriend, Ian, who I had already heard so much about. I wish I could have stayed and hung out with them longer.

My last stop before heading home: seeing the incredibly talented and wonderful Robert Cornelius! There has rarely been anyone that I've met that I've clicked with so instantly. We talked for two hours in a coffee shop about photography and friends and pineapple green tea and if I didnt still have a long drive home we probably would have stayed longer. Robert is such a lovely person.

Thank you, Meagan, for being such an amazing person and an even more amazing friend. I am so grateful that I have you in my life and I hope I will get to see you again soon.

Flickr Island Pt. 2

If you missed Flickr Island Pt. 1, go take a look! That's where all the fun is. :) I love looking back at that, there were so many great times and wonderful memories. I cant believe it was almost a year ago!

A lot of these images I meant to post a while ago. I didn't do much shooting outside of candids, but there had been the occasional shoot set up by someone that I would quickly join in on just because!
